You count the 32nd notes just like 16th's (1e&a, etc) but there is an extra beat in between. The way my instructor expained it to me, your dominant hand plays the 16ths and the weak hand adds the extras. Hope this helps.

Like chef said, count 16th's, but play twice as fast. You play two notes (one on each hand) for each count.

So it would be something like...left right one left right two left right three?

Take a 16th note exercise, slow the tempo, and double-time it.

Hello Jared,
First off I want to thank you for this site.I was taking lessons and because costs became too much I had to stop.Although it has been a few months since I had my last lesson,I am trying to remember how a certain beat sounds.
I was doing the 1 e and a 2 e and a 3 e and a 4 e and a 1 when I had to stop.In the mean time I have been doing Air-Drums and have recently bought a Practice-pad and that is it for me.
I am a 50 year old Canadian living over here in the U.K.I have been on Youtube air-dumming to Billy Jean and Gimme All Your Loving plus some Beds Are Burning and I'm Outta here ,just to try to keep up the wrist and arm practice plus my foot and High Hat.
When you talk about 16th and 32 and you say the beats,I understand what your saying.Where I am lost is what it sounds like. Also, you mention Triplets and that is also where I am lost. Can you play it when you do your videos so I can get the sound and follow your actions.
Ok ,so I am trying my best with what I have which is nothing, but at least i can imagine what it.I do have my sticks which are "VIC FIRTH American Classics" with the Nylon Tips.
One day I hope I can buy my favorite set which is a Roland Electric Kit.Can't wait.
Take care and thank you once again. Please don't shut down,it is important too me and others.
Stephen

Welcome wolf! Maybe these links will help. You can watch and listen to Jared describe them and play the material you mention. You've probably already seen these, but they cover what you're asking for, I think. Not to worry, FDL isn't going any place.
16th notes
8th triplets
16th triplets

(you sound like me, "air drumming" with two writing pens - I will send you the advice Poco Askew gave me from a different thread, hang on a sec) Ok here: sounds like u r on the right track

Thanks for the posts and Jared this site is awesome!!!
I don't even have sticks yet I'm practicing with two writing pens for an hour a day and banging on the air (until today when I got all tongue tied on the 32nd notes)

this site REALLY helps and I hope to get a snare, hi hat and metronome (with sticks!) next week
wish me luck
JT

Welcome JTal. Get the sticks first. Then a practice pad and metronome are next. You can learn a ton just with that and do it for cheap while you save for a snare/kit/whatever"
