Welcome tesson!
If you do some searches, you'll find topics with instructions and tips as well as lots of opinions. The video will also get you tuned up. Like everything else about drums, it takes practice.

Welcome!

I'm not so sure if this is just me, but I am really confused with the search function. Whenever I type what I want in, it always gives me this random stuff that has nothing to do with what I wanted. Any help?

Which search link do you use? I used to have nothing but problems until I realized I was using the wrong one for what I wanted. Don't use the box with the button next to it. Use the search link just below it, if you aren't already. It works about as well as any forum search.

If you're talking about this, then that's what I'm using, and it's not working right. As I said, I type in the word(s) and it will find something completley different.

Hmmm...weird. That's the one all right. So if you type in tuna, you get peanut butter?

Okay, now I am really confused. It has never worked for me, and I'm using the same link as before. I just typed in tuna, had it search in the beginner drum lessons, and I found your post. I'm gonna try again soon and see what happens.

EDIT:

I think I figured out what my problem is, and what I don't understand. When I search for single words, I can find it, but when I try searching for phrases, such as "tuning your toms," I can't find what I'm looking for. I used the help button, and tried what that said, but nothing there helped.

I just tried it and it worked OK. I typed in: tuning your toms (no quotes). I found your post and tons of others since it matched "tuning", "your", and "toms". Next I searched for "tuning your toms" and I got just one match - your post.

Odd, I'll type in (no quotes): "tuning your toms" and I'll get anything that has tuning, your, or toms in it, but never what I'm looking for. Then, I believe the help thing said to put a "+" before the first word, and inbetween the rest of your words. For example, I'll type in (no quotes): +tuning+your+toms and it will be as if the "+" aren't there. Am I doing something wrong? If I want to find out how to tune toms better, should I just type in the word "toms?"

I might be wrong, but I think you need a space between the words, like: +tuning +your +toms. That should match any post with all three words, but not necessarily in that order. With quotes, you'll get matches that contain exactly that phrase.

Thank you so much Poco. I'm going to try these now. Sorry for wasting your time with a simple problem.

Not a problem. I've had my share of frustration with searches. You may refer to some of my early posts. tongue.gif

I'm actually a product manager for a search product and I'll tell you... it's hard for any search technology to be considered very usable when there is only a few thousand short text posts to work with. A good size population of content to search from would be at least a million documents. Especially when you type in multiple words. Based on that, I think this forum search is doing just fine. Just be creative in the words you use to find what you're looking for.

Erb,

Your question is a good one. First off, you must learn your rudements, this site is a great start but if you have the oportunity to have live instruction, then I would take advantage of it and use this site as a supliment.

FDL has some great resources, the free lessosns section, the DVDs and the community of members who are here to assist you.

Let us know what you decide but you have one resource that is free and that is FDL smile.gif

Johnathan is right. I think this website is great one to start especially for beginners and is also really helpfull for drummers in different levels who donīt have too much spare time to go to music school or take drum lessons. Usually live drum lessons are very expensive as well. I guess the best way is learning from FDL and also having a personal drum teacher.
But to find a good drum teacher in my country is a problem. cool.gif So for the time being I prefer FDL videos amd secrets lessons.
