Right at the part where you say that some of your students have trouble with it....well..im stuck...I cant break it down...its kinda fast and complex for me, any sugestions?edit- well I can finally break it down, I just had to learn how to read the notes which didnt take too long, but Im still having touble with it...I have to do it really really really really slow to nail it, once I speed it up I either lose my timing, or I just completly mess it up and add hits that shouldnt be there...so what do you think is the best way to keep on learning these?

You need more independence in your limbs. For these you need to practice beats such as this. It just takes time.

The best way to keep learning them is to do what you have been doing. Practice SLOWLY. Sometimes I would work on a groove for a week and not be able to get it. Then, I would slow it down so much that it doesn't even sound like a beat until I felt comfortable with the notes and separations. You will get it...just keep practicing!

Well Jared, just wanted to say that after about 8 or 9 hours today, Ive got the 16th note beats down, no problems with that no more, Is it normal though, to practice a beat for that long, and not even be able to memorize it without a note chart in front of me? I seem to have that problem.......anywayz, I think im gonna try the next few lessons tommorow, Im all drummed out for today , thanx again buddy, you help a hell of a lot.

The only real problem i have with these beats, is the Hi-Hat, I've got no problem playing it with a continuous beat on it, but when i break it down and do it right, it seems like i just mess everything else up.

any suggestions?

The first one is a transition from eighth note beats into sixteenth ones. You count it 1 and 2 and 3 e and a 4 and.

On the 3 part, you hit the hi-hat and bass on 3, do nothing on e, hi-hat on and, then bass on a. I think he goes over this in the video, but I'm not sure. I know he says this though: Go over it slowly until you have it down, then start to go a bit faster. Trust me, it helps a lot.

Welcome Jaybrowski3!
You might find it easier in the beginning to count all 16ths: 1e&a2e&a3e&a4e&a. Of course you'd still only play the 1/8th notes on the numbers and "&". This would help you get the rhythm, timing and counting for 16ths all through the measures.

Yeah, that would probably be easier when you're just starting it, so you can get the sixteenth note count down.

And welcome btw smile.gif

Woho, I nailed it now. smile.gif After about 30 mins.. I think I developed a new way of learning hard beats.. At least seemed to work for me. smile.gif

I'll tell you what I did, maybe it will help someone or maybe I shouldnt be doing it if its bad or something cause of reasons I dont know.

(Im talking about beat 4 and upwards)

I played pretty slow for starters but I played it 4 "notes" at a time.. First I just learned the first four then stopped.. then played that until it sat perfect. Then I added 2 more and played 6 notes at a time and kept adding small parts of the sheet until I finally had it all.

I never tried this before, was just something that hit me now and it worked wonders for me. smile.gif Maybe and hopefully tihs helps someone. smile.gif

EDIT: Really hard going past 85ish BPM.. My right foot just wont allow it. sad.gif It almost does, sometimes, but sometimes it doesnt, get offsync and horrible timing etc.

Yeah, foot speed is something that develops, just like hand speed. Unfortunately you're rather stuck at that tempo. You could try learning heel-toe and implementing that.

Are you standing close to the edge? Look out to the setting sun, the brink of your vision. Eternal youth is a landscape of a lie. The cracks in my skin can prove, as the years will testify. Say your prayers and light a fire, we're gonna start a war. Your slogan's a gun for hire, it's what we waited for. This is why we're on the edge. Hey fixed it, but I think I am going to make another one using my metronome guy who commented on my video really made me think about finally learning how to set it up the way I want which I think helped me a little, but I am still sounding really off I believe.
