hey guys,
for some reason my dad just offered to buy new heads for my yamaha stage custom drumset. I bought the kit on ebay and it came with almost new g2s. i didnt really like them that much because they have kind of a plasticy sound to them. So i was wondering what do you guys think the best drum head would be for my stage custom? it is a birch kit with 6 ply toms and 7 ply bass.
thanks

p.s. for the reso head, i have just the stock yamaha heads which are some type of 1 ply remos... they actually are made in the US...

I am putting the G2's on as my reso heads. If they are clear, you could try that.

As far as your batter head issues, I only have experience with EC2 an Remo Pinstripes, and I liked them both.

I'm a fan of the Aquarian Performance IIs or Super II coated. I think they both get a nice sound, the performance IIs will give you less of a ring, while the super II coated will give you more of that jazzy, but still kind of dead sound.

Two ply for reso heads? That's 14 mil of reso!

well, i think ive decided to go for ec2s on the toms, a hd dry on the snare, and a emad 2 on the bass as well as a emad reso head on the bass too. i think this is a wise choice, but im going to see my uncles band tonite and his drummer gets a great drum sound out af a catalina birch, so im gonna ask him what heads he likes.

the new ec2 ssts are designed alittle better, just in the fact that the rings are perportioned to the actual size of the drum heads where the old g2's had the same size ring on all the heads regardless of size..It helps alittle but not enough to make that big of difference for the extra $$ - IMO

I like the coated heads for the toms regardless of brand..seem to give a warmer tone..I actually have a reversed dot on my floor tom and love the effect I get. All -n- all Aquarians are my favs. PII and the Superkick II is just as good if not better than the emad..and less money. and why mess with that ring of foam??
