Hello to everybody.

I would be very interested in a type of practice that wouldn't involve the linear type of drumming (foot and hand never play at the same time) which for me is very interesting, but there are a lot of practices for it. You just take any type of stick control excercise, the best of them being mashups of paradiddles and apply them to your foot/hand combo.

The kind of stuff you see more rarely is practice which involves alternating patterns on your legs and feet but with allowing them to make hits at the same time. If you could show these kind of excercises and apply them as grooves, that would be great!

Yes, we are working on it. We had to upgrade our computers video card this week..Hopefully that makes a difference.

Lesson Suggestion:
Here is a suggestion – “How to dissect a rock song to figure out the notation from beat to fill by ear”. For Example, I’m trying to figure out Rob Zombies, Thunder Kiss ’65 and can’t figure out if I am hearing 16th note or 32nd note fills and where other rests with in the fill reside and how to play them. How can I efficiently learn a song while jotting down some of the notation that I am having difficulty with so I can better learn it at my speed? Hope this is a good idea you can make a lesson around.

Hey Everyone

Usually when we see hand to feet combination is in some type of fill idea like quads between feet and hands. It would be cool to expand on those ideas and see how we can work our hi-hat foot in this situation. For instance, while doing linear 16th notes between hands and right foot, add the hi-hat foot to it, but not just with the usual quarter notes and 8th notes. Use some broken up 16th notes, some 32nd notes between the strokes done with the hands and feet, and also how about some polyrhythm like playing 3, 5 and 7 (or broken 3,5 and 7) while doing the quads between the hands and right foot. Afer the right foot could trade places with the left foot, and this way we would do hand to feet combinations between the hi-hat foot and hands, while the bass drum foot woulb be doing what the left foot was doing (broken 16th, 32nd, 3, 5 ,7...etc)

Instead of using only hi-hat foot this could be taken even further by adding some hi-hat foot splashing to the mix. With quarter note splashing, 8th note and broken 16th notes.

Like many have stated, rudiments would be killer on this lesson. I would suggest the 5 stroke roll and the 6 stroke roll (for 16th note triplet applications), besides the paradiddle. Whenever I think of 16th note triplets and hand to feet combination, Aaron Spears always comes to mind....check this awesome fill out:

http://www.drummerworld.com/Videos/aaronspearsslow.html

It would also be a cool opportunity to further delve into the world of linear funk drumming, either with some 16th note triplet grooves, 16th note grooves and even triplet grooves ideas. Even best, you guys could gives us some ideas in HOW can we develop a linear type of playing, maybe some exercises, further reading resources, etc.

Well I guess that is all...FOR NOW!!! wink.gif

take care gentleman smile.gif and see you all tomorrow

In the 'developing your single stroke roll' live lesson, Jared talks about playing your single strokes as LRLRLRLR instead of RLRLRLRL to develop your weaker hand. Practice accenting every quarter note and also practice keeping everything at the same level. Do this regularly with a metronome and it should work wonders.
