Hi,
I love the six stroke roll. On the FDL vid its presented as rrllrL (or llrrlR) but when it is done Lrrllr you get the lone 'r' falling back on a mainstream beat and thats easy to accent or to come back to beat on and if you string them together it sounds freaky. Thats what frustrates me with rudiments and the amount of time a person can practice - you can play them front ways, back ways, inside out and then start throwing bass drums into them.

question regarding the six stroke roll,

I've seen it as
RR LL R L and R LL RR L

Which one is the basic rudiment, I was a little confused by the second one when I saw it.

Thanks

They're the same thing. put the L in front of the set in the second one and you have the first one starting w/ the left hand. The Vic Firth rudiment poster I have lists it both ways. The Yamaha poster I have w/ pretty much everything on it only lists it in the second variation.
