Hi, first of all thanks a lot for this website.

I've begun drum with your lesson, starting from the beginning 3 weeks ago, some technics are easier to learn than other but until now it was a matter of a hour or two to play the hardest for me, until...this lesson!

The 1st exercise was simple, the 2nd took me a little more time, the third like 2 hours....but the 4th!!! damn it's the fourth day now (so something like 4 hours I'm on it) and I just start to play it "correctly" on the last 5 minutes of my last session...can get it 4 or 5 times in a row for now so tomorrow I'll hope to play it longer.

So BTW I just wanted to ask if for most people this is a difficult exercise? or am I not very good at it? I don't know any teacher or people interested in drum around me so I'm a little confuse about it.

And another question, for example, to master each exercise of this lesson, how long or how many iteration do you recommand to be able to? like doing each correctly five minutes is a goal? or being able to play the fourth in a row a couple of time?? I might say that by now I'm unable to play these exercise in a row, I must stop first to start the following exercise, I can't change rythme when playing, is it normal at this time or should I work on this first?

Thanks a lot

Welcome ultime!
It's not that you not good. You just need more practice. Being able to play something is goal #1. Making it groove is #2 and just as difficult. A good drummer practices so they don't make a mistake. A great drummer practices until they can't make a mistake. You should eventually be able to play multiple pages of exercises or beats w/o stopping, or making a mistake. This stuff takes time. Learn to count. Use a metronome. Start SLOW. Have fun.

That's fine with more practiceI nearly got it now...I feel so proud for this tiny thing now hahaha

Another question in my mind, I have an electronic drum, so there is two electonics metronome inside, the first one is ( TING tick tick tick TING tick tick tick) and the second one is spoken (one two three four one two three four)

I use the second as I feel better when counting the 8th and 16th (I realise instantly if I'm faster or slower) BUT also because for the first one I don't really hear the TICK's with the drum sound in the same time

Do you think it's ok to play with the voice metronome or do you recommand to buy a standard metronome?

IMO, any metronome is fine - especially when starting out. Use whatever works for you. I find the counting type drives me nuts, but if you don't mind it - great. Usually you can change both the loudness of the metronome compared to your drum sounds, and you can change the voice of the metronome clicks (to a wood block, cow bell, etc.). I've never had a problem hearing my metronome over my drums, once adjusted.

I don't know if i'm doing this right. Let's say I hit a close hi hat but then a millisecond later open it up again. I get a ring that sounds similar to an open hi hat strike. So what i get is an open hi hat sound earlier than I want.. is this normal?
