I have a question. For exercise three, you say you should think of the two ghost notes within the triplet as being a double stroke. Should I actually be concentrating on those as two seperate notes or as a roll? It looks like a short roll, and feels like that when I play it.

Wondering what your guy's thoughts were on this.

Depending on the exact sound/feel you want from the ghost notes you could go both ways. Sometimes I will try and give them more of a separated feel for a certain song...other times I'll just roll them together.

Great video on Ghost Notes Jared... I am having a bit of a hard time distinguishing my ghost notes from my regular snare notes. This video will help me work on that... and I'm glad you mentioned that many people have that same issue rolleyes.gif

This is a great site with many great resources, thank you so much for it all!

Thanks Jared, I am going to take you up on that offer. I'll be sure to give you the props you deserve. You are doing some great, innovative things! Thanks a lot.

I hope to spend some more time on your forum also... I'm still learning through your Rock Drumming System and it's going great. Sometimes it's nice to jump on here and try some other stuff out once in awhile also.

Cheers.

Do ghost notes have to have a different sound to the normal notes? huh.gif

Different quality? No.
Different volume? Yes - by definition.

They just sound softer, and depending on the drum/drumhead/drumstick/muffling you have, the sound may change a bit. But not much.

I'm having some trouble with ghost notes. No matter how soft I tap it, it is still almost just as loud as a normal hit.

I had a hard time for awhile also with the softer sound. I find after practicing for awhile it sometimes just starts to happen and sound a little better/softer. Good luck, just keep trying it.

Jiff, when I use ghost notes..I try to make the others alittle crisper/sharper. I love using ghost notes..once you get 'em down..You'll want to sneak 'em in all over. smile.gif
They are alot easier to get, when you use traditional grip tho..At least for me.
